FAT – This was the first slam poem Sofie ever wrote, several years ago.
Peace – Sofie’s second slam poem was written just over a year ago for a poetry competition (which she won – whoop!).
Parents – To all the students let down by the exam board, to everyone with big decisions in front of you – follow your dreams, no matter who is in the way.
Strangers – This poem was written for ‘Never Stop Loving You’, which Sofie debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe last year. You can see some more information about that production below.
Meet Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking
Storytelling Performance by Sofie Miller
Adapted for the stage by Helena Middleton and Danyah Miller
in association with Oxford University Press and The Astrid Lindgren Company
Supported by the Embassy of Sweden
Sofie performed Meet Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking at the Pleasance Courtyard, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on various UK tour dates in 2021. The show was created in celebration of Pippi’s 75th birthday by acclaimed storyteller Danyah Miller (I Believe in Unicorns, Why the Whales Came, Perfectly Imperfect Women) and award-winning director Helena Middleton (Education, Education, Education, Star Seekers, Pippi Longstocking – The Musical Adventure, Hey Duggee).
Nine-year-old Pippi is strong, brave and fearless. When she comes to live in her new home with her monkey and horse but with no parents and no rules, she brings mischief, chaos and confusion to the folk of this ordinary and traditional town. Pippi takes charge of her own crazy adventures, with her two new friends, Tommy and Annika. What else would you expect from the daughter of a swashbuckling pirate captain?
Never Stop Loving You
Written and Performed by Sofie Miller
Sofie wrote and performed our first Young Wizard solo show, Never Stop Loving You, at PBH’s Edinburgh Free Fringe 2019. The show was developed by a team of young people, supported by professional theatre mentors.
This spoken word performance – a series of diary entries, phone calls and slam poetry – is tender, funny and challenging, exploring the pressures of being a young person longing for love and self-acceptance.
After a tragic accident 19 year old Sarah is left reeling at the funeral of her soul mate. She swears never to stop loving him, but as she looks back she begins to realise that not everything was quite what it seemed. Now Sarah, who has a difficult relationship with her mother, has to consider who it is that should never stop loving.
